May Was A Bit Of A Soaker...

This last month has been rather wet thanks to a persistent low pressure system that's been hanging around Guatemala.  This has been quite the change considering our first 3 1/2 months was nothing but blue skies and warm temps - every single day.

I have to admit, waking up to 78º-80º mornings is quite pleasurable.  It sure beats the 95-98 degree mornings we had back in April!

New Addition To Casa del Browne...

For almost our entire 36 years of marriage, Fran and I were parents to loving dogs.  Arriving in Costa Rica without our canine entourage was too much for us to handle.  So with only 3 weeks in country, we adopted Úpe, a Yellow Lab from the town of Jacó.

Now one year later, we learned of a 2 year old (pure lab) who spent her long 14 hour days chained up to a tree while her owners were away at work.  That's no life for a dog!   When a friend brought this to our attention and asked us if we were amenable to adopting a second dog, we were somewhat reluctant.  Úpe was the queen of the house, why muck up a good thing?  Bringing in another dog was insane!  But WTF... we did it anyway.

Say hello to ASHKA our newest member of the family.

Ashka and Úpe had "words" in the beginning but now they are beginning to be best of buds, especially when they are playing at the beach.

David and Kim Newman
David and Kim Newman
Longtime friend, rafting buddy and fine scotch whisky connoisseur from Charlotte NC, David Newman and his new bride Kim, popped in for a few days while on their honeymoon.  David did come prepared brandishing a bottle of 16 year old Lagavulin, my favorite scotch.  Needless to say, we polished off that bad boy on night one.  The rest of our time together was spent down at Playa Avellanas, a great surfing beach about one hour south of where we live.

The Ottie's & Cluff's
By way of a mutual friend, Gary Johnson from Mesa AZ, Fran and I met Shanon and Donna Cluff and their friends Bev and Ottie Carroll, all from Mesa AZ.  They came here on holiday and stayed at a local hotel (El Velero).  We connected for drinks and dinner at the hotel one night and again a few nights later at our house for dinner.  Needless to say, we had a blast.  We're happy to say that we now have four more folks we can count as friends.

Skip and Donna Anderton

Closing out the month, dear friends Skip and Donna Anderton and Paul and Gloria Yeatman, friend of ours from the San Ramon area came up and spent a few days.  Luck was with us, for a week of solid rains ended just in time for their visit.

Needless to say, the beach was on everybody's mind.  Surf was up and Paul broke his boogie boarding cherry on some of the biggest waves Playa Hermosa has seen in years.

New Video Blog Menu Navigation...

Following the suggestions of several Boomers Offshore readers, I reorganized and redesigned the "look and feel" of how you can access videos.  The biggest change involves the "cataloging" of all videos into a series of 11 groups.

For example, if you want to look at a single category, say "Packing and Shipping", clicking on that link will display all videos belonging to that category.  Thanks for the feedback.

Chapter 59: Giving Back To The Community - The Proyecto de Luz
A local charity event designed to raise money to further develop the local school infrastructure.
Chapter 60 - Day Trippin' - Touring Costa Rica's Natural Wonders
Now that you've moved here, it's time to get off your duff and begin exploring this new place you now call "home."
