Sample Itinerary

Everybody's needs are different, yet there are things we all share in common when relocating to a foreign country.

  • What are the stores like?

  • How do I shop for food, clothing, medicines?

  • What about Private doctors?  Do they speak English.

  • Will I be able to get all the same medicines I take back in North America?

  • Can I get cable TV with U.S. channels?

  • Are there good veterinarians in Guanacaste?

  • How available are rental properties?

  • Is there a good place to have my hair cut?

  • Is the water safe to drink?

  • I hear it's dangerous to go out at night

  • Is high-speed internet available?

All tours are custom designed to meet your specific needs.  However, experience has shown us that most people who are seeking Pura Vida share many of the same interests, needs and desires.

Based on this experience, we want to share with you this sample itinerary.

Monday:  Your Arrival Day
  • Arrive in Liberia.  If you are flying in to LIR, we will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel.

  • If you are arriving by car, you can proceed directly to your hotel in Playa Hermosa.

  • For the balance of the day you are on your own.  Enjoy Playa Hermosa.  Have your camera ready for a spectacular sunset!

Tuesday:  Introduction to Guanacaste

Objective: Introduction to the Guanacaste area.  This day will consist of a driving and walking tour of Guanacaste's popular beach (playa) towns including Playa Hermosa, Playas del Coco and Playa Panama.

We also focus on the relative "cost of living" here at the beach versus other areas of Costa Rica.

  • How much will your foods and medicines cost?

  • Vet services, availability, quality and cost?

  • Private doctors services, availability, quality and cost?

At the end of this day you will have gained a better understanding of this area’s basic infrastructure and cost basis.  Bring plenty of note paper and your camera!

SCHEDULE:

  • Meet at your hotel at 9:00 am for coffee and discuss general overview of the next few days activities.

    • GROCERIES:  Visit several supermercados (super markets) ranging from local Tico establishments all the way up to a store that will make you feel you back in North America.  Tip: Bring a list of some of your most commonly purchased food items to compare prices.  You will be surprised at what you may find here!

    • PHARMACY: We will visit a local Farmácia and discover how services here can be  very different from that of a North American drug store. Tip: Bring a list of any medications you may be currently taking.  Include the brand names and (if known) the generic equivalent name.  Include your prescribed dosage.

    • PHYSICIANS:  You will have the opportunity to spend 10-15 minutes talking with a local (English speaking) physician.

    • VETERINARIANS:  If you plan on bringing pets, you may be interested in visiting with a local English speaking vet.  The Doctor will try to answer any questions you may have concerning your pet's care in Costa Rica.

Wednesday: Exploring Your Housing Options

Objective:  THIS IS NOT A REAL ESTATE TOUR, however if you plan on moving here, you need to know just how far your dollar will go since your single largest expenditure will probably be rent.

You will be shown rental properties which range from small one bedroom casitas (bungalows) up to large, single family houses, complete with breathtaking views.  Price range will be between $600 to $1500/month.  It is important to see just how broad your possibilities can be.

SCHEDULE:

  • Pick you up at your hotel at 9:00 AM.

    • Visit the homes and meet the residents of several local renters within the Playa Hermosa, Coco, Panama and Ocotal area.

    • The tour, depending  on your needs, can include single family homes, bungalow/casitas, low-rise and high-rise condominium as well as gated and non-gated communities

Thursday: Explore Liberia, Guanacaste's Capital

Objective:  If you can't find what you want in Hermosa, Coco or Panama, you are sure to find it Liberia, just a short 40 minute drive from the beach.

Liberia has it all, auto dealerships, a relatively modern mall complete with Cineplex, grocery stores, regional full service hospital and medical specialists etc.
